An effective treatment strategy for ITB symptoms is using kinesiology tape.  Place the tape in a vertical way along the entire course of the attachments of the Iliotitial Band, starting at the origin at the outer hip area and making a longitudinal strip down the outside of the leg to the outer knee region.  If the pain is primarily in the knee area, start the tape vertically from the outer knee area and pull lightly upward to the mid-leg region.

Kinesiology tape is frequently used to treat overuse injuries.  It reduces pain on the iliotibial band by preventing excessive straining and pulling on the tendon, while increasing the effort and power it can generate.  It also decreases swelling and inflammation of the tendon.  Kinesiology tape can be found at most sporting goods stores and is easily applied with my educational videos and photos.
